Picture rolling down a dirt road in a Cadillac with rims, switches and a shotgun rack in the back and you got the idea of how Pimpadelic is coming. Guitarist / MC Easy Jesus is at the wheel, riding shotgun is MC Dirty K. In the backseat is Madison on drums, Cha Chi R. Cola on bass, and DJ MIA. They ignore stop signs, stay swerving from lane to lane, and cut off cars. It's no big deal, they're from Ft. Worth Texas, where driving reckless is standard procedure. As Waylon Jennings sang, "Just some good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm". Well, maybe a little harm, as Dirty K testifies, "We're troublemakers that handle our business." Being no good but having a good work ethic is going to take them far, like a full tank of gas and a cooler full of Lone Star beer in the trunk.
With such a wide-open road ahead, it's a good time to look at the map and see the road traveled so far. Easy Jesus and Madison met in grade school, too far back for Easy to remember specifically what grade, but sometime in middle school they started jamming together, later in high school they started copping weed from DJ MIA. Cha Chi R Cola and MC Dirty K got into the mix soon after graduation. The road took some strange curves at this point. First they were feeling a glam rock vibe, then went to another extreme by making a straight beats-n-rhymes rap record. Ask Easy Jesus when Pimpadelic started, and he'll tell you, "the moment we started practicing in a storage space, and didn't have to pay rent because we're fucking the owner's daughter." From there it was a straight line, as the crow flies to the music they make today; Rock-N-Rap-N-Rawhide!
Pimpadelic is rolling out a new sound with some old influences; Good old Country music, Ol' time Rock-n-Roll and Old School Hip Hop thrown together like bar brawlers in the same drunk tank. For at least one of them being drunk and disorderly comes naturally; Easy Jesus is the bastard nephew of country music hard-ass David Allan Coe. The rest of the group comes with no such pedigree, but it's still all good. They got Texan drawls when they say the "yes yes y'alls." Dirty K is more influenced by the "flexing skills type of MCing" by artists like Rakim, but he's got a lot of love for "crying drunk country singers" like Johnny Paycheck, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. Hell, hip hop and country got at least trouble in common; Looking at their rap sheets, George Jones and Ol' Dirty Bastard could of been separated at birth! Pimpadelic is the bouncing bastard baby of moonshine and malt liquor love. Raise up out your seats and get ready to rock, roll, rap, and rebel yell! Yee Haw!
Easy Jesus steps onto the stage in the official Pimpadelic uniform: "ski mask, cowboy boots, duct tape over my tattoos, wife beater and Wranglers". Years of hard living have been distilled into ten months of recording, and the final mix is 180 proof firewater. Pimpadelic is ready to serve the suckers the strongest shots of Southern discomfort they ever sipped: Peep the drink menu, what's your poison?
"WHITE TRASH": The anthem, an ode to Billie joe and Jim bob too. Hank Williams Jr., GG Allin, whiskey, statutory rape, hawking police, it's all here. Watch your step cause these hillbillies ain't playin' with y'all. You may catch a heapin' helping of their Southern hospitality upside your wig piece.
"VEGAS": That Nic Cage guy was weepy for 90% of that Leaving Las Vegas movie. Don't expect the Pimpadelic posse to be shedding tears, they not only make the bed they are lying in, but they wet it with no regrets.
"CAUGHT IT FROM ME": A mating call of hard raps, finger snaps, and pimp slaps. Pimpadelic turn the party out and every willing female within ear shot. They put their mack hand down and get you up on your feet. That's a full service maneuver most macks can't make!
"PERPETRAITOR": Haters to a player are like taxes to an accountant: Part of the daily operation. Pimpadelic handle the haters with both sides of the hand. They slap the fronts of fronting with the front side, then they back up what they say by back handing back talkers. They are so efficient with their hater handiwork, they may start a seminar. Consider this song your self-help tape. Whatever you decide to imbibe with, count on Pimpadelic to put you on the dance floor. Whether it's horizontally or vertically depends on your ability to handle their brand of high-powered hootch.
Pimpadelic picked up Tommy Boy Records (or maybe vice-versa), and made a right turn onto the highway. Now the V8 engine is revving up and running down the road toward world domination. Whether they came from rap or country, the whole group has the same destination. They yell in unison, "We're gonna be arena-playing-Cadillac-driving-Jenna-Jameson-screwing-ROCK STARS!" With their message of "hoes, cash, and sour mash", they (like their fellow Texan Geto Boys) can't be stopped. Who would be insane enough to try? The debut album on Tommy Boy Records is Southern Devils and it's sure to damage your delicate demeanor.
